All business establishments engaged in service and repair shops must acquire accreditation from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Pursuant to Presidential 1572, no such service or repair enterprises and technical personnel shall be licensed or permitted to operate in the country without accreditation from the trade department.
“Accreditation aims to safeguard the public against inefficient, unfair, and incompetent practices of service and repair shops,” Assistant Secretary Angel Pelayo said.
The DTI prescribes the basic requirements of setting-up a shop, measures the capacity of service offered and accredits the enterprises which have complied with such requirements. Establishments required to apply for accreditation are as follows: service and repair shops dealing with motor vehicle, heavy equipment; engine and engineering; electronics; electrical; air conditioning and refrigeration; office machine; data processing equipment; and medical / dental.
“DTI-NCR will increase its monitoring and enforcement all over the metro. Accreditation is an old regulation hence there is no excuse for non-compliance,” Asec. Pelayo reiterated.
The requirements for Accreditation area as follow: completely filled-up application form, photocopy of Insurance Policy, official receipt covering full payment of the premium, Business Name Registration, and processing fee. The deadline for renewal of accreditation is every 31st of January. Late renewal for accreditation of service and repair shops will be fined 25% of the total amount of fees. The total fee depends on the type or classification of service and repair shop. (end)
